36 Hours in Denver – Curated by EBD

Over the last three years, Denver has grown by over 100,000 people and shows no sign of slowing down. Perhaps it’s the 300 days of sunshine or maybe it’s the proximity to nature? All we know is that it’s easier than ever to treat our fair city as a staycation. The recent lack of travel and exploration has many people down and out…and thirsty for wanderlust. Luckily, however, we are here to plan a weekend that you can experience here and now.

Come along with us for an EBD branded weekend.

Friday 4pm
Check in to the Kimpton Hotel Born

The Hotel Born is an addition to one of the most exciting urban redevelopment projects in the nation, the $500 million transformation of Denver’s Union Station neighborhood. Everything you could possibly
want from a city is just steps away. And yet the mountains are just out the door and up the hill, thus our theme for the hotel of urban meets mountain.

When you check in, you’ll find a space that emanates authenticity. Layered with natural woods, exposed concrete and tactile materials, this hotel is nothing short of a sophisticated city retreat. You’ll snuggle into a plaid chair with one of the books from the library, where we bound old magazines into hardcover books. On the way to your room, you’ll pass some of the 700 original works of art – (with a special piece hidden in your closet!) And upon arrival to your room, you won’t be able to help thinking about your post dinner sleep under the custom wood canopy bed.

Your Denver staycation is off on the right foot.

8PM
Dinner at Tavernetta

Tavernetta has made its way to the top of the list of every food and wine enthusiast.  This welcoming neighborhood restaurant in Denver’s Hotel Born that is reminiscent of one of the Frasca Group’s favorite places in the Northern Italy, a true “tavernetta”.

An open concept kitchen leaves nothing up to assumption. You see all your food being made. It’s the wood accents and modern whisper that makes you feel an unmatched ambiance, and a purity that makes you feel like you’re in someone’s home.

If it’s not exactly like taking a trip to Northern Italy, it’s very, very close.

Saturday 10 AM
Marczyk Fine Foods + Picnic at Red Rocks

What do you need as a reward for hiking the 380 steps to the top of Red Rocks to take in the view? A curated brunch picnic from Marczyk Fine Foods.

Pete Marczyk wanted his gourmet grocery to be like the ones he grew up with back east. Family owned. Fresh, delicious food. Consistently great service with really great meat. From in-house creations to local small-batch brands, a mouthwatering selection awaits you at their neighborhood markets. So when you pack your picnic, don’t miss the fresh bread.

So enjoy that view, and the perfectly packaged fine foods from our fave store.

2 PM
Hammond’s Factory Tour

If you’ve never seen a candy cane being hand-rolled?  Now is the time at Hammond’s Candies. Take a tour through their factory and learn what makes their handmade candy so special. The brand went viral earlier this year with a tik tok video.

Be sure to stop at the shop on your way out to stock up on sweets, and don’t miss the Art Candy, a Hammond’s vintage specialty only available there and at Nordstrom. And be like, well, a kid in a candy store.

4 PM
Drinks at Citizen Rail

What’s better on staycation than some afternoon drinks that turn into dinner? And since Citizen Rail is right downstairs in the Hotel Born, you won’t have to travel far.

Like an urban train car, this bar and restaurant transports you to a different time. However, the modern homemade cocktails will bring you right back down to earth. And the house-cured meats? Be sure to ask Chef Christian Graves what he might be serving up that night!

Allll aboard!
